Islam in One Word
Publication date: 2003-03-31
We were asked to explain what is Islam in one word.
Our answer was: "Honesty".
Yes, honesty with one's own self, honesty with other people, and honesty with Nature.
Just as today, people's judgement has always been influenced by their selfshness and wishful thinking, and the prophets, like Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad were calling upon people to reject their wishful thinking and self-deception, and to become honest with themselves, others, and the Creator of the Universe.
But people find it difficult to be honest, they play games and indulge in politics and thus deceive themselves and others, but they cannot deceive God. This is why we have wars and much human suffering.
Honesty with God means living in accordance with the Natural order of the Universe, and this means seeking truth and justice. And truth, honesty and justice lead to peace and security for all.
